IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - PLEASE READ

At an Extraordinary General Meeting held on 13th May 2009 the membership of Welton Rovers Youth Football Club unanimously voted to change the Club’s name to Midsomer Norton Football Club. Chairman Michael Hoare said that although this was undoubtedly a landmark decision for the Club and the town it was one that actually received no opposition or objection and thus he said underlined the wishes of the town for Midsomer Norton to have a football club.

Mr Hoare said that although it meant initially starting the new Club as a youth football club for children aged between 5 and 17, boys and girls, he said that “from small acorns oak trees grow” and that it was only a matter of time for players to eventually progress into adult football with Club. He added however that the Club was keen to hear from footballers of ALL AGES, boys and girls, men and women, players and coaches, who’d like to get involved to help build the Club to participate at all levels football.

Although having been associated with Welton Rovers FC since 1998, the Club was originally formed in 1990 as West End United which resurrected the name from the former west Somerset miners’ football club which began its existence as West End Rovers FC in the 1919/20 season. Mr Hoare said that 5 years ago the Club was on the verge of collapse but here it is now taking on the mantle of Midsomer Norton Football Club and where the Club could or will be in 5 or 10 years time will be down to the footballers and people of Midsomer Norton.

To mark the change and recruit new players Midsomer Norton Football Club is holding a free OPEN MORNING on Writhlington’s School’s fantastic astro pitch on Saturday 6th June from 10.00am to 1.00pm. The event is open to boys and girls of all ages whilst adult players or teams who’d like to get involved and represent the Club should contact Mr Hoare.

Midsomer Norton Football Club will retain the FA Charter Standard Club status achieved under its previous name.
