BRILLIANT FOR AN HOUR

We took ourselves once again back to the wide open spaces of very sunny Redlynch, glad to get it out of the way early, regardless of the scoreline!!
We went with high hopes, after a good pre season where only the returning Ben hadn`t kicked a ball in one of the four matches.
Subs a plenty, and the very experienced Pete playing his first real game for Trinidad, all looked rosy, and the football in the first half at times was fast, furious and ultra competitive, which stepping up a league, we`ve got to get used to very quickly.
Glyn was back after missing the whole of last season, as was Martin who came in for the injured Rob, to add to the all ready injured Paul, Daisy, Neil and the very sorely missed Beebs.
Benj opened our account with a contender for our goal of the year on the half hour, and we also had a number of great opportunities to extend the lead but failed to take them.
Add to that the ref missing two potential leg-breaking tackles from two of their players, and one of their lads getting away with wearing a plaster-cast on his arm, discretely covered by a black sock on the hottest day of the year!!!, and it was nice to be back in the Big-Time?!!

At the break someone remarked the hard work was done, as we had played up the slope and weathered the storm, and led 1-0 and naively, maybe we believed it, as we went out for the second half, they had definitely received a rollocking though, and we met a new animal.
The next fifteen minutes were ours again though, and only Benj will know how he failed to score when put through by a lovely ball from Martin. Missed Chances??!! I think I may have written along the same sort of lines on quite a few occasions when we were in the top Flight two seasons ago now!!

Then came the total change around, and boy did we get tired and sloppy as they piled into us, hardly believing they were still in the match!!!
3 very soft goals conceded, and we need to be sharper and more alive and quickly, or we are going to learn the hard way that last season has now gone, and we have fresh challenges to overcome, carrying on at home to Westover on Wednesday.

Cheers Boys GAFA
